Port Freeport has rail infrastructure to serve your cargo needs
Port Freeport’s rail activity has expanded tremendously in recent years and regularly receives railcars loaded with finished vehicles, round steel bars, bulk aggregates, and ships railcars loaded with finished vehicles, liquefied C02, and rice. Regular collaboration between the port’s Operations Team, the switching provider, and port Tenants like Tenaris, Vulcan Materials, Alliera, Riviana Foods and Volkswagen Group of America are what helps ensure a safe and efficient rail allowing the port to exceed expectations on service.
In 2023, Port Freeport completed construction of Phase 2 of the Parcel 14 railyard which is directly across the road from the main terminals. The railyard has a lead track that switches to 7 ladder tracks and the tracks measure about a mile each. Union Pacific serves this railyard daily with a drop and pull service. In 2024, Port Freeport partnered with Rail Link, a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming, and Rail Link provides switching services to the port’s rail users.
