Multi Use Facilities for a Diverse Cargo Port
Port Freeport brings the world to Brazoria County’s doorstep and is the conduit for the movement of maritime commerce. Port Freeport continuously seeks opportunities to improve port tenants’ and users’ experiences.
The port’s public facilities feature outdoor or indoor cargo storage, modern vessel docks, wide berth aprons and efficient cargo handling equipment. Over 200 acres of improved land is located directly behind the docks and Port Freeport continues to invest in terminal expansion and modernization.
In recent years, Port Freeport has seen financial support in the form of grants from The United States Department of Transportation and the Texas Department of Transportation.
The grant proceeds are funding road improvements, new gate access, larger truck queuing areas and a chilled cross-dock and warehouse. These improvement projects are inside and outside the main terminal and will increase operational efficiency and safety.

Port Freeport is Prepping for Two Super Post-Panamax Gantry Cranes
Velasco Terminal of Port Freeport has two berths (Berth 7 & 8) with over 1,700 linear feet of dock plus an 85’ RORO platform, two post-Panamax ship-to-shore gantry cranes.
In late 2025 we will be welcoming two super post-Panamax gantry cranes to our Velasco Terminal to expand our operations. The container terminal has a 51-foot draft to allow for larger vessels. The inner harbor serves Riviana Foods which makes Port Freeport the only port with an on-dock rice receiving, processing, loading and distribution facility.
