Port Freeport continues to invest in the future

Port Freeport has become one of the fastest growing ports in the nation. The port continues to develop its marine terminals with a primary focus on the Velasco Container Terminal.

Velasco Container Terminal is a multipurpose terminal serving Container, RORO, Multi-purpose and Bulk cargo vessels. Velasco Terminal has two berths (Berth 7 & 8) with over 1,700 linear feet of dock plus an 85’ RORO platform, two post-Panamax ship-to-shore gantry cranes. The container terminal has a 51-foot draft alongside with concrete and aggregate paved areas for the storage of containers, finished vehicles, heavy equipment, breakbulk and project cargo.

The Inner Harbor Terminal is a premier location for berthing RORO and Multipurpose vessels. Most of the RORO vessels deliver or lift finished vehicles, and breakbulk vessels deliver round steel bars to Port Freeport berth at the Inner Harbor.

Berths 1, 2, 3 and 5 at the Inner Harbor have 36-foot draft alongside. The Inner Harbor also serves Port Freeport’s long-term tenant, Riviana Foods, and Port Freeport is the only port with an on-dock rice receiving, processing, loading and distribution facility.

The Inner Harbor and Velasco Container Terminal are just a few miles from the U.S. Gulf and about a 1-hour transit from the sea buoy to either of the berths. All the port’s public terminals are served by the Freeport Harbor Channel. At the end of 2025, the channel will have been widened and deepened to depths of 51-56 feet making Port Freeport the deepest port on the Texas coast.

The port is centrally located on the Texas coast and offers quick and efficient connectivity to the state highways, railroad or the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.

In addition to access, Port Freeport has over 350 acres of environmentally mitigated land available and over 1,800 acres of unmitigated land earmarked for industrial development. With an abundance of acreage available, you can be sure the port has room to accommodate your company’s growth.

Port Freeport offers more than just premier berth access and efficient Gulf transit—they represent a strategic investment in infrastructure guided by vision and intent.
