Port Freeport 100 Years Ago

An Economic Powerhouse for Over a Century

In 1925, the citizens of the Brazos Harbor Navigation District made a bold decision: to divert the Brazos River and create the Freeport Harbor and Freeport Channel, ensuring safe and efficient navigation for maritime commerce. That decisive commitment laid the foundation for a port that continues to deliver dividends, generation after generation.

Today, as a self-governing body of the State of Texas, Port Freeport is entrusted with fostering economic growth by providing efficient, world-class port services while promoting sustainable and responsible development.

Generating Jobs in Brazoria County and Beyond

Port Freeport's growth has a direct positive impact on the local workforce, creating opportunities for skilled and motivated individuals while driving economic prosperity throughout the region.

Key Workforce Statistics:

  • Over 37,000 local jobs are supported, with more than 12,000 direct jobs contributing an estimated $3.4 billion in labor income within Brazoria County.
